SLOW ME DOWN, LORD

SLOW ME DOWN LORD

Slow me down, Lord.
Ease the pounding of my heart
By the quieting of my mind.
Steady my hurried pace with a vision
Of Eternal reach of time.
Give me, amidst the confusion of my day,
The calmness of the everlasting hills.
Break the tensions of my nerves
With the soothing music of the
singing streams that live in my memory.

Help me to know
The magical restoring power of sleep.
Teach me the art of taking minute vacations,
of slowing down to look at a flower,
to chat with an old friend or make a new one,
to pat a stray dog,
to watch a spider build a web,
to smile at a child,
or to read a few lines from a good book.

Remind me each day
That the race is not always to the swift,
That there is more to life
than increasing its speed.

Let me look upward into the branches
of the towering oak
and know that it grew great and strong
Because it grew slowly and well.

Slow me down Lord,
And inspire me to send my roots
deep into the soil of life's enduring values
That I may grow towards the stars
Of my greater destiny.

What a wonderful poem especially meant for you. Yes, in our modern world of fast paced activities, it is nice to learn to slow down and learn God's immutable lessons in life. Thanks for the post. God bless you always.

Sheila--this is just what I needed to hear--lovely expression of what I am trying to do in my hectic life! So far am taking "minute vacations" until the real thing comes along...probably when I am too ancient to do anything else!

wonderful and inspiring post for me at this point. i feel so rushed, heart pounding away and feeling tired, besides the effect of some new medicine that i'm taking. so reading this helps. thank you sheila. you're God sent.

hi sheila. dropping by to say hi. God bless you, my friend.

Dear Sheila, I thought you would like to know that the beautiful poem, "Slow Me Down Lord" you posted on your blog some time ago, is to be read in church on the Island of Malta (in the Mediteranian Sea) next week, in memory of a colourful feisty lady who died there last week.
Melita

OH MY GOODNESS MELITA! How VERY kind of you to let me know this! It is so thrilling for me to reach people world-wide from my bed! And what a co-incidence because a few weeks ago my husband and I were investigating Malta as a possible place to go to or live!!
Thank You so much Melita!
Blessings, Sheila
