LOVE CAME TO EARTH ON CHRISTMAS DAY
It has always bothered me since I was little, that Jesus didn't get a gift on His own birthday, so I told myself that when I got my own family, there would be a gift for Jesus. We started even before we had children. Instead of New Years's resolutions, each family member writes on a piece of paper what they will do to improve themselves spiritually during the next year. That is their gift to Jesus. They put it in the box and we wrap it and put it under the tree. On Christmas Eve, when the kids open their traditional Christmas Eve gift of pajamas, and we read the Christmas story out loud, we would open the gift we made for Jesus, then put the paper in our room on the wall all year long, to remember the spiritual goal for that year.
Christmas has become MUCH too materialistic. It has lost its original meaning. Now that there is a financial crisis, I am hoping people will lighten up, not go into debt for just one day, that they will make gifts for each other, do more for each other, do more service projects.
The man who got trampled in the doorway of Walmart in the USA on the big sale day after Thanksgiving is one big sign of how overboard and out of line people have gotten with this sacred occasion. It doesn't even resemble the peaceful, quiet, sharing, spiritually uplifting day that it started out to be, and stayed that way until about 1900. Time to turn back the clock to a gentler time. Give Jesus the gift of yourself this year and every year.
